Moving Forward Together

Welcome
Hello, and thank you for visiting. My name is Ian Hibberson, and I’m a fully qualified and highly experienced Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I work with adults (18+) both face-to-face and online, offering a safe and confidential space from my home-based counselling room in Beeston. I’ve been in private and corporate practice since 2004.
My Approach
My aim as a person-centred counsellor is to provide you with a comfortable, confidential and safe emotional space from where you can feel at ease to explore your problems, issues and concerns with trust and without fear of judgement. The person-centred approach is non-directive, which means I will not tell you what to do or impose solutions. I will respect and support your ability to make your own choices and be respectful and sensitive to who you are and the changes you wish to make. At the same time your counselling will be compassionately challenging with a view to facilitating and enabling the changes and clarity you wish to bring into your life.
As your counsellor, I won’t offer quick fixes or judgments. What I will offer is my full and undivided attention, along with a genuine commitment to supporting you as we work together to explore and develop your own insights, understanding, and solutions – at a pace and in a way that feels right for you.
Why Counselling ?
Counselling provides a safe and supportive space, offering you the time and opportunity to step back from the pressures of life – to reflect, gain clarity, and explore in a confidential space. It can help you uncover new perspectives, build emotional resilience, and move towards more fulfilling, meaningful and effective ways of living.
About Person-Centred Therapy
Humanistic Person-Centred Counselling is based on the work of Carl Rogers, who believed that every person has an innate capacity for growth, healing, and self-understanding. Central to this approach is the belief that, given the right conditions, we naturally move towards greater fulfilment, wholeness, and emotional well-being.
Rogers described this as “an underlying flow of movement towards constructive fulfilment of its inherent possibilities.”
This approach holds that each individual possesses inner resources that can be accessed and cultivated in the right therapeutic environment. By offering a relationship grounded in empathy, authenticity, and non-judgement, Person-Centred Counselling supports you in connecting with those resources and realising your own potential for change and personal development.
This deep trust in your inner capacity for growth underpins everything I do as a counsellor.
